Asheville Reporting Service's Staff

Karen Kornhauser, Owner: Karen has been in the court reporting business a number of years now. She was born and raised in New York City, pursuing her bachelor’s degree at Long Island University in Brooklyn. In the late 1980s Karen went to work as a transcriptionist for Ginger Burns, former owner of the company then known as National Reporting Service. Then in 1996, Karen began managing the business when Ginger accepted a position as an official court reporter for AOC. After Ginger’s untimely death in 2001, Karen took over as owner and changed the business name to “Asheville Reporting Service.” She is an animal lover, with a critter family that includes her dog Bully, her mom's dog Colette, three adopted feral cats, and two Quaker parrots. That's not to mention the two cats who live full-time in the office, Oreo and Billy..
Dee Anna Michaels, CVR: Dee Anna began working as a court reporter in 1986 for Asheville Reporting Service. She is experienced in reporting in both Superior and District Courts, as well as covering depositions, with an emphasis on medical proceedings. She's adept at basically any facet of court reporting. Dee Anna is an excellent legal transcriptionist, as well; she is our resident authority on anything to do with the English language, especially spelling and medical terminology. Dee Anna sets the bar for everyone else in professionalism and pride in her profession as a court reporter. Dee Anna loves animals, too. Court reporting's gain was the veterinarian's world's loss! Her rescue dog Bear, who was in dire condition when she found him, has found a wonderful home to live out his days with Dee Anna and her husband, David.

Magdalena Watkins: Maggie is the newest addition to the ARS staff, just joining us in February of 2008. Maggie has extensive legal background, having worked for several attorneys in different capacities in the Greensboro and Asheville areas. She is originally from Mexico, but has lived here in the States for the last 20 years. She is fluent in English and Spanish. Maggie and her husband, Andrew, and their dog, Oliver, live in East Asheville and they are particularly active in the Spanish community.
Mai-Beth Ketch, CVR: Originally from Denmark, Beth came to Asheville in the late nineties with her husband, Mark, and joined Asheville Reporting Service as a court reporter in 1998. She obtained her certification from NVRA in 2001. Beth is noted for her professional and personable demeanor and we value her because she is always willing to uncomplainingly go over and above her duties as a court reporter. Mark and Beth's family is rounded out nicely with their beloved pup, Bentley.
Amanda Johnson: Raised in Western North Carolina, Amanda comes from a large, close-knit family. She is married to Toby and loves horseback riding and all kinds of sports, including volleyball and soccer. She also loves her Golden Retriever, Sadie. Amanda came to work with Asheville Reporting Service early in 2002 as a court reporter. Her skills as an organizer have helped her to evolve into the person in the office who handles all the accounting and payroll, and she helps maintain order in the office. With Amanda’s help, we can always find what we’re looking for.
Ed Diez: Ed joined the Asheville Reporting staff in 2005 as our production man. With additional training, he has now evolved into a videographer and court reporter. as well. He is originally from Argentina, but has lived in Asheville for a number of years now. Ed speaks English, Spanish, and some Italian, and adds to the international flavor of our office. His friendly personality and sense of humor make him an asset to our team.
Aubrey Haslow: Aubrey is finishing up her studies at UNC-A while working full-time for ARS as a court reporter and transcriptionist. She is married to Jacob and they live in the Leicester community of Asheville. Once she walks in the door and sits down at her computer, it's easy to forget she's here because she's such a hard worker -- and so quiet! Her pleasant personality, efficiency, and excellent work ethics make working with her a pleasure.

In Memory of Ginger Burns (1960-2001)
Ginger founded National Reporting Service, as ARS was formerly known, in 1983, after graduating college and then court reporting school in Florida. In 1996 she moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, and accepted a position as an official court reporter for the NC Administrative Office of the Courts, and worked in that capacity up until her untimely death from cancer in 2001, at the young age of 40. She was a wonderful employer and a good friend.
