Asheville Reporting Service is committed to providing professional and high quality services to the legal community, and to creating a friendly relationship of confidence and trust.

Pro Bono

As part of the community, Asheville Reporting Service willingly extends a helping hand when possible. We have worked with Pisgah Legal Services, a nonprofit group that helps low-income individuals with legal counseling and representation, on a pro bono basis. We are also open to working with attorneys that have low-income or indigent clients on a case-by-case basis. Asheville Reporting Service will be happy to offer pro bono services or discount their rates for worthy causes.

Why Choose A Voice Writer

The answer is simple: Accuracy. A voice writer can achieve an even higher degree of accuracy than a stenographer. Why? Because this method combines technology with the discerning ears and observant eyes of a human being, and therefore this produces a more accurate record, which is the bottom line. Voice writers that are certified have met standards that are the highest in the nation. This method is very reliable, and makes the record accessible to anyone without them needing training in phonetic shorthand.

Certification Designation

Asheville Reporting Service is a member of the National Verbatim Reporters Association (NVRA). This organization offers a certification testing program to all members, and is accepted in North Carolina as the state licensing agent. In order to receive the designation “Certified Verbatim Reporter,” or CVR, the candidate must attend a workshop that covers the use and care of equipment, silence testing, read-back and basic courtroom procedures. A written test covers punctuation, spelling, grammar, legal terminology, definitions and more.

Also, three five-minute testings must be dictated and transcribed (200 word-per-minute literary, 225 WPM jury charge and 250 WPM two-voice question and answer). An accuracy rate of 95 percent on each of the three tests is required to pass. In order to retain certification, reporters must satisfy the NVRA’s rigorous continuing education requirements. On a side note, the Federal Government requires a minimum of 225 WPM.
